Lisbon is the political center of Portugal, housing the government and the residence of the President. It is also notable for being the westernmost capital on the European continent, located on the Atlantic coast.

The city is a significant economic hub in Europe, experiencing growing financial progress. This growth is supported by the largest container port on Europe’s Atlantic coast and, more recently, by Humberto Delgado Airport, which welcomes over 20 million passengers annually.

The Lisbon region is the wealthiest in Portugal, boasting a GDP per capita of 26,100 euros, which is 4.7% higher than the average GDP per capita of the European Union.

Its metropolitan area ranks as the twentieth richest on the continent, with a GDP of approximately 58 billion euros, accounting for about 35% of the country’s total GDP.
